Hehe, I'm back! This time with some Kagerou Project, in light of the anime adaptation's release.
I've always wanted to draw Mary like this, at the peak of breaking down from all the chaos that goes around. It gave me chills.
I sketched it, and added lines for most part but her hair (which I brushed manually). For the shading, I relied mostly using multiple Multiply layers. Turns out it's pretty nifty, saves more time compared to going to every base color layer, locking the opacity, and brushing darker colors over it. I might need to work on color variation on the shades though, hehe.
Drawn and colored with mouse, on Paint Tool SAI, minor touches in Photoshop CS5,
Kagerou Project and characters are Jin and co.'s~
Uwaaa Taffy! Your comment... Where can I even start? 8"D
I'm glad you like the impression this picture gives you! I wanted to make a piece that conveys a sense of despair and pain, so I put extra emphasis on her expression and the colors, to get the right atmosphere, like a dark fairy-tale storybook.
Ah, I brushed her hair entirely, because drawing long hair manually felt very tiring and tedious for me (since long curved lines are hard to draw with a mouse, huheuhe). I'm sorry it's a bit rough/messy, but I'm still glad you liked how it turned out! ; u ;
dan gapapa, manganya juga belum sampe situ kali. #plak
And waah, actually, most of my time on this drawing was spent on adding finishing touches/details as well as adjusting some colors. The linework did take some time (4+ hours! 8D), but the colors and shades were quite simple in comparison. Sometimes I spend more time thinking of ideas compared to actually drawing them, ehehe.
But thank you so much for your input, kak Ditha! I'm really glad you liked this!
Wah, yes, her hands do look a bit weird, don't they? I should've looked at my own hands better, haha.
Thanks though, cookie!
Raaaae, I missed your art!
This looks more like Outer Science.
Your colouring looks so amazing! It looks like some defined version of your old colouring style, exactly what I wanted from you. It also looks much more appealing as a thumb again.
I'm not sure about the black smudges around Mary's hands though. They don't look that well.
As for the line art, I like how messy it is. I does feel like you've been a bit lazy to it though, and now it's also very clear that you used a mouse. Not sure whether that's your intention or not, but I just don't like it that much.
I also have to mention that the arms may have been longer. The proportion between the arms and the hands aren't right. Maybe it's just me though? But I do admit that this hand pose is quite difficult, haha. I do like her expression though! She looks afraid, at the same time furious, and somewhat desperate. A dark atmosphere, which completely draws the attention to the much lighter-looking Mary. Haha, reminds me of the baroque style in paintings.
So in overall, nice drawing! And I love your colouring style so much once again.
Haha, I wanted to trick anyone who saw this thinking they could get some fluffy Mary art... Although I guess it's already obvious from the thumbnail, yeah? |"D
If it had Kuroha, then it'd probably be OS
Ah, yes! I tried a different approach to coloring (specifically shading). And I had the mojo, so I guess I went double all-out for it. |"D
Mmmm yes, black smudges... Dunno why I put those there. I wanted to try blending the colors of her hair and face more, but yeeeee I prolly should've done it like that. Thanks for noting! \o/
Haha, you got me! I actually didn't feel up to doing lineart when I drew this, so I guess it looked a tad messier than always. And I regrettably chose to work on a huge-ass canvas (1500 x 2000), so the linework took a whole lot longer, and I had to cover more detail. Which I did. Badly.
And yes! Those arms and hands did strike me as odd... I wasn't sure if I made her hands too large or her arms too small; maybe both?
Just think of the distorted proportions as her reverting back to her beastly medusa origin. #turnedtostone #killed
Oh lord, thank Shidu for that expression. If he never made Outer Science PV feat. despaired Mary, then I don't think I wouldn't have drawn this concept at all. I'm glad you like how I pulled it off though! ; u ;
And waaaaa once again, thanks for the lovely input, Thacchi!
Hehe, yep! Produced by Studio Shaft, which was responsible for Zetsubou Sensei and Monogatari series. Quite stylish, I'd say. The Kagepro anime is quite random, but stylish.
There's been 4 episodes up, go check 'em out, uncle! \o/
And waah thanks too! I thought you'd like the darkness; I'm glad you do.
Oh gosh, thanks Mono-san! Those colors were my favorite parts to work with, I'm happy that you liked them. :"D
Despair Mary is sad for me to think about
But I can't help but like drawing her. _(:"D_/
Weee I like drawing intense emotions/expressions so her anguished face was really fun to me~
And her clothes were actually the hardest part (drawing them, at least). When I colored and shaded them, I basically went ballistic and mashed brush strokes here and there. Which is prolly why it looks so messy, eheh. _(:"D_/
But aaa thank you tou! I'm glad you liked this piece!
