...Contrary to the title, while drawing this, I didn't have much free time at all.
Yozakura Quartet! Safe to say this is one of my favorite manga series ever, especially considering they made an anime reboot of it this year, and another OVA series. So while I'm not busy drawing
which is rare now, I'm usually too busy reading/watching this, or spending all day on twitter spazzing about it (and a lot of other series).
I tried my best with everything on this piece, except the background, which is a cheaply-traced and blended photo I found on my hard drive. Though this isn't the first time I've used this cheap method before, it doesn't feel good.
I hope one day I can have the skill
and patienceto make good backgrounds on my own. o<-<
So yes, Akina and Hime doing quick laps around the town block on a cheap rental bike, with Kotoha as their personal timekeeper, with Rin and Ao observing (and delivering) nearby. I wish my life was this lively~
Oh yes, I tweaked the colors a
lotbit, here's the initial piece! fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/201…
Hope you guys like it!

Aaaaah gak juga kok... Palingan cuma coloringnya yang ubah dikit. _(:"3_/
Pose sama ekspresi memang fokus gambarnya sih, aku pengennya bikin semuanya berinteraksi satu sama lain gitu. Situasi kayak kapal pecah atau apa. Kayaknya masih kurang rame, deh. apalagi BGnya juga hasil curian dikit. /duk
Nnn, Akinanya kurang mirip ya? Apa karena wajahnya gak se-hensem komiknya ya... Yah, anime barunya juga gitu sih, soalnya! pbs.twimg.com/media/Bd1EAtGCcA…
Haha, bisa percaya aja kok. Kalo BGnya dicabut, kayaknya bakal biasa aja tuh hasilnya. |"D /duk
And aaaaaa, thank you so much Elle! I'll do my best for the next (next) one!
Uwaaaa makasih... Ya, palingan juga saya cuma bisa nyesuain gambar ama BG. Pengennya bisa bikin BG sendiri, terus disatuin dengan gambar sendiri, mantap dah.
Pencahayaan... Nn, sebenarnya karena saya gak terlalu paham soal pencahayaan yang tepat, jadi hasilnya menurut feeling aja. Masih harus latian ini. _(:"D_/
And amin, thank you kak Ditha! I hope all goes well for all of us this year too!
Aaaaaa yes! I wanted to go for a "random" scene, where characters are going wild, things flying everywhere, etc.
I think it could've been more of a shipwreck, but thank you Key! I'm glad ya like it! ; u ;
Hehe, expressions are easier to draw and define when there's actually a situation in the drawing. Rather than them just staring into the camera/oblivion. |"D
The bike is coughing up sparks due to an instant brake, for the n-th lap. TRAINING!
Hehehe, the pink-haired girl just happens to be my favorite character in the series, so I had extra fun making her look nice~
And haha, thank you, I'm glad you think the BG doesn't seem too conspicuous! /shot
Yessu, I looked at references for most of the hands, but then I figured "fuck it" and drew the rest by memory. Like the pink girl's~
The colors! It originally had a gritty reddish flare on it and everything, but then I decided to tinker it and give it a more soft, neutral color scheme. Like a normal day or something. Glad ya like it! :3
And aaaaa wow, thank you Key-chan! You and your comments aaaa
Haha, yeah, they're crazy! Crazy enough to work.
Ooh! For color overlays, I usually just take 3 colors at random, and hope I end up with something visually pleasing on my first try. If not, I mix and match a bit, until the atmosphere starts to take shape. I mostly go with a combo of blue, red, and/or yellow. :"3
Aaah thanks! I hope I can make good backgrounds in the future, too! :"D
And ah, I forgot to reply this one! Sorry! ; A ;
Aww haha, yeah, I really enjoyed shading and coloring the characters here, it was fun getting to color things again after a long time. :"D
I thought the blur would look a bit weird as well, but I wanted to try it anyhow, since I've never added something like it before!
And the ramen box in the air was probably the only part of the background I did on my own, and that alone was a bit of a challenge. I really liked shading it though, and making all the subtle reflections on the surface! It's really fun. ; u ;
And waah, again, thanks a bunch, Dess! I'm glad you like!
Holy shit, Rae.The background is too perfect (but then, you've traced it). The colouring is surprisingly great! Soft on certain spots like the hair, but rougher on the clothes and limbs. I like it.Line art is not as good as usual though. It's not that bad at first sight, but if you look closely, it shows that you're obviously a mouse user. I do like the slight sketchiness in here though. I just think you could have worked a bit more on the pressure though? I don't know.I also see you've blurred on the characters in action. I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but you've also blurred the background a bit. I'm not sure why but it looks a bit... huh.Also red scarf girl's right arm goes a bit too thin at the wrist, which makes the hand look a bit weird.I think I went too detailed again, because this...IS TOO PERFECT. TOO UNFAIR. MAKE YOUR ART LESS AWESOME PLEASE.
Aaaaaaaah to answer your notices;
-Yeah, I admit the lineart was a bit shoddy here. I used the Lineart Layer's "Pen" tool as opposed to my usual "Curved Line" tool, because my mouse is being a complete dick and always registers once click as a double click, which renders the curved line useless, since I need to continuously click once to set each turn point of the individual lines. And while I did try to set the pressure on the lines I made using the Pen Line tool, the effects weren't visible at all, because when I use the Pen Line tool, it creates "points" at every slight curve, making setting the pressure on the nodes to be incredibly frustrating and pointless. _(:"D_/
Oh yeah, I also tried putting the "rough sketches" on top of the lineart, hoping it could create a good new effect. I kinda liked it myself, but I had a feeling not everyone would think the same way. ; u ;
-Ah, yes, I tried working on the .PSD layer and blurred just the characters, leaving the BG intact, but for some reason I liked how the effect looks more when I blur the BG as well. Makes it feel more natural for me. Again, I had a feeling not everyone would feel the same way. _(:"D_/
-And ah! Yeah, I was too focused on making her hand the right size (since everyone always says I make tiny hands) that I ended up forgetting her arms in the process. My bad, I'll see if I can fix it later. ; - ;
HAHA! You say it's too perfect, but your overly-insightful input definitely proved otherwise. Well, Thacchi?
But uwaaah, thank you so much for your insightful input! It makes me feel better since you actually realize the mistakes I realized I've made, instead of saying it's full-on perfect. It really helps me out a lot. ; u ;
- You need a new mouse, OR BUY A TABLET. //SHOTI guess since you have this double click problem, you won't be able to delete or combine some CPs and then work on the pressure. Damn.- Maybe you could have made something similar to when you use the radial blur, perhaps copy-pasting a part of the line art and then blur it or something? Just a suggestion, I don't know about the results.- Hhaa, sure they're right about the hands. It's a common mistake in manga. I try to avoid that mistake. :''D
You're still better at hands than me thoughSometimes things aren't about every little detail, but the thing in overall. That's how most Daily Deviations are like.You're welcome anyway!
